This feature allows you to encrypt specific folders instead of entire hard drive partitions.

How to enable or disable Encrypting File System on Windows 11/10?

There are 5 ways for you.
Step 2: Find and right-click theEncrypting File System (EFS)option to chooseStart.
Step 3: Then, double-click it to open its properties.

Click theStartup typedrop-down menu to selectAutomatic.
ClickApplyand then clickOKto save these changes.
To disable Encrypting File System, open Services again and select theDisabledoption on theStartup typedrop-down menu.

ClickApplyandOKto apply these changes.
Step 2: Navigate toComputer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Policies.
Step 3: Right-tap on any space on the right-hand side and selectNew > DWORD (32-bit) Value.

Step 4: Name the DWORD value asNtfsDisableEncryptionand pressEnter.
To enable EFS, double-nudge the NtfsDisableEncryption value, set its Value data to0, and clickOK.
To disable EFS, double-pick the NtfsDisableEncryption value, set its Value data to1, and clickOK.
Step 2: Navigate toComputer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Filesystem > NTFS.
Step 3: On the right-hand side pane, double-click theDo not allow encryption on all NTFS volumesoption.
Step 4: To enable it, selectNot ConfiguredorDisabled.
To disable it, select theEnableoption.
Typesecpol.mscand pressEnterto open Local Security Policy.
Step 2: Navigate toSecurity controls>Public Key Policies.
Step 3: Find and right-clickEncrypting File Systemand selectProperties.
Step 4: Go to theGeneraltab and selectAllowunder theFile encryption using Encrypting File System (EFS)part.
To suspend the EFS tool, selectNot definedorDont allow.
