What Is Vssvc.exe?
Vssvc.exe is also called Volume Shadow Copy, Volume Snapshot Service or VSS.

Step 1: Press theWindows+Rkeys together to open theRunbox.
Step 2: Typesystempropertiesprotectionin the box and clickOKto open theSystem Propertieswindow.

Step 3: Under theSystem Protectiontab, click theConfigure…button.
Step 4: Next, under theRestore Settingspart, choose theDisable system protectionoption.
ClickApplyand thenOKto save changes and exit.

Step 5: Now, kickstart your system and then repeat the process from step 1 to step 3.
Now, underRestore prefs, select theTurn on system protectionoption.
ClickApplyand thenOKto save the changes and exit.

Now, the system restore is enabled back again.
Now, you’re able to look to see if the vssvc.exe is consuming high CPU.
Step 3: FindVolume Shadow Copy.

Double-click it to open itsPropertiesdialogue box.
Step 4: Under theGeneraltab, go to theService statussection and click Stop.
ClickOKto save changes and exit.

Alternatively you’re able to also right-poke the service and select Restart to start the service again.
This should restart the VSS service and it should not consume much CPU and memory anymore.

Step 1: Search forTask Managerand open it.
Step 3: Right-click Volume Shadow Copy and then you should clickEnd taskto finish this process.
Now, see if the CPU usage is still at 100% after you do the above operations.
If not, this issue has been resolved.
If the Vssvc.exe high disk usage issue persists, try the next solution.
Step 1: Click theStartmenu.
Right-click Command Prompt and chooseRun as administrator.
Step 2: When you get into Command Prompt, inputsfc /scannowand pressEnter.
Step 3: Then Windows will scan for system file issues.

Now exit Command Prompt and restart the computer.
It can help you change prefs to improve the speed and performance of your operating system.
Step 1: Typecmdin theSearchbox.
Step 2: Right-clickCommand Promptand chooseRun as administrator.
Step 3: Typemsdt.exe /id PerformanceDiagnosticand press theEnterkey.
Step 4: ClickNextin the Performance window to continue.
Wait for the troubleshooting process to finish.
